Coral Reforestation Training

25.12.2022

Following the training of the Oceans Without Borders (OWB) coral protection ranger team in 2021, two biologists from the Linda Bahari project, a coral reforestation project in Matemwe, trained with us this December. They had previously completed the Coral Reef Restoration theory course from conservationtraining.org and were thus well prepared for our practice-focused training.

This world-class course from conservationtraining.org includes seven lessons covering strategic planning for coral reef restoration, propagation of corals, enhancement and stabilization of physical reef structure, and monitoring restoration success. Complementary to this, we teach our techniques and practical aspects.

The training was also very helpful for us. Ali Mahmudi received a second round of training and we compiled various documents, manuals and checklists for day-to-day operations. Ali will be using these for courses held in Kiswahili in the near future. Two local staff members from Linda Bahari, a marine biologist, two rangers from Mafia Island and staff from the Mwambao Network have already signed up for future courses.
