To enable the research of local sponge species and farming methods, a convenient test farm site first needed to be identified.
To this end, we recently reviewed existing maps and created new ones where necessary. In addition, the depth of the water and current conditions in the lagoon between Jambiani and Paje was systematically measured out. Based on this research, a 6-10 meter channel running parallel to the coast at a 1.5 kilometer distance was identified. A bustling 12-meter coral block naturally protects the sponge farm from the surf.
