We finally have a date! The closed season for the Octopus population of the southern part of the east coast of Zanzibar will start at the 1st of October. The opening of the closed reefs will be at the first spring tide in December. The temporary protected area is with 40 km coastline and about 30-40’000 inhabitants quite big.
Below you can see Haji and some of our data collectors trainees. We monitor all the Octopus catches before and after the closed season to see the benefit of our efforts.
